*ONE*

Owen had his first birthday Sept 27th!  Let me just tell you- this kid LOVES his birthday!

Happy from the moment he woke up and he ate his breakfast

That evening we had some friends over for a BBQ by the pool

Owen was loving all the attention. This is him with Lindsay

Group shot!

One happy family

After dinner, we came up to the apt and had the rest of the party.

I don't think he could believe this was all his

Loved his cupcake

Holy moly this little guy was so spoiled! This is a darling sweater from Grannie

He got a fun package from Aunt Tav

Little People play set from Grannie

Some of Owen's friends!
*McKenzie and Ethan had to leave early*

Owen knows what's up

It was a great day and great party. Owen was pooped after all the festivities and went right to sleep. Here is his birthday shrine.

Owen is such a happy boy. He loves balls, playing outside, climbing on anything, EATING, animal noises, playing with Dad, & playing with other kids. We sure love him to pieces and can't imagine life without this guy!

Cowboy Up!

Our ward had their annual talent show this month & I signed Ry and me up to do a swing dance. I got the idea from Vaughn & Tavia. They did a swing dance to "No One Need to Know Right Now" by Shania Twain when they got married. So I borrowed their idea and made up a little dance to the same song.

The swing dance was a total hit!!! Well, probably b/c there were only 5 talents all together. I was a little surprised that there weren't more talents especially b/c probably over half of our ward is from Utah- and that is the land of talent....right!?  One thing the ward did do that was awesome- they had tables set up lining the back of the gym, and people could display their talents- like pictures of things they do, drawings, paintings, sewing, etc...that was awesome- and it was cool to see all the talent in our ward that isn't necessarily a stage act.

A day at the lake

I don't know how many lakes there are in Phoenix. But I think Lake Pleasant is one of the only ones near where we are. The Short family invited us out for a day at the lake. Oh my! We were so excited. B/c it's still so hot here - we're overly happy to spend a Sat in the water.

Owen was very excited to get there- and wanted Dad to drive faster

First trip out!

Evan & Chellese

so- this is where the day starts to get interesting. Everything that could go wrong on a trip to the lake DID go wrong for pretty much everyone that day. The 4 boys all took their turn wakeboarding, then Chellese was going to go- then me. As soon as Chellese was ready- the boat wouldn't start.

Just enjoying the time as we were stranded

We waited and waited for quite a long time. We finally flagged down a fishing boat and they didn't have jumper cables, so they went back to the dock to get some then came back to us and it didn't even work. So they left and we flagged down a dad and son on a jet-ski. This pict is of them pulling us in. All the while, Tara & Bobbie are still at the shore with their kids + Owen. We were out on the water for at least 2 hours. haha, they thought we were  SO rude ;)

Needless to say, the boating was over. We still enjoyed a great lunch and great company.

Shortly after lunch- we noticed that there was a sort of kerfuffle going on on the other side of the dock. We leisurely made our way over there and noticed A CAR WAS SINKING!!!! We were immediately surprised that no one was panicking. Some poor family forgot to put the car in park as they were backing up to load their jet skis. We tried to hurry and get tow rope to attach to the car but by the time we got it all the car had gone COMPLETELY under. Yep, we saw the last air bubble come up. So a few of our men decided not to give up. Sam and Ryan found some goggles- and they swam down to the car, hooked the tow rope to the back of the trailer then the people pulled it out with their truck. It was crazy.
After that, we started to pack up. Tara and Talon jumped in our car to head home. About 20 minutes into our drive home, Tara got a call asking if she'd taken the truck keys on accident? OH NO!! She remembered she left them on the top of OUR car when she was putting Talon's car seat in. AHH!!! We turned around immediately and spent the next 2 hours or so looking for our lost keys. Sad day. We never found the keys, so we took as many as possible that would fit in our car, left Sam and Bobbie with the truck and boat and headed home. We dropped off the Short's- but that wasn't the end. They had to drive to MESA (like another 45-50 min drive) to get the extra truck keys then drive BACK to the lake that night.
It was an unforgettable day :)

Hello Grand Canyon!

Grand Canyon. check.
For Labor Day, we decided to go up to the good 'ol G.C.  It was awesome.
It was Grand!

This is the time in my life where I wish I were a bird and could fly around

oh ya, we saw a moose

On our way home, we stopped in Sedona to play @ Slide Rock. We did this last Labor Day as well- cept this time I wasn't 9 mo. prego :) loved it!

water was COLD!!!  but for some reason we still went down the slides like 15 times

Owen was so funny - he was crawling like like even though he can walk.

wow- I guess he wants to be a bird too.

One of the many reasons why we love Sedona-- it's like 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix!! yee haw!!!  It was a lovely evening as we were leaving Slide Rock. We had to stop & take a few picts b/c we rarely get to see green fields.

from crawling to wakling

We are definitely the kind of parents who say "oh, this is my favorite stage!" for every stage Owen goes through. Crawling to walking was so fun & Owen was a champ! He started really trying to walk while we were in Spokane.
This was his FIRST ever attempt to walk with a "help thing." Laynie was a great teacher, and as you can see from the picture below, he was a quick learner....

anything that moved- he would walk with

@ the Spokane airport waiting to go home- he was loving using the stroller to walk

After we finished unpacking, he decided the suitcase would work!

"poor college student baby walker"

He's getting better and better!

I don't know where he comes up with these ideas!?

Owen crawled for a LONG LONG time. Like for almost 4 months. It didn't take him long to learn how to walk once he decided to get to it. He was able to walk on his own by about 11 months. It's his new found freedom. He loves walking and he loves going places.
